HOME iN THE FAMiLY OF GOD

Home has always been a moving target for me. I’ve lived everywhere and nowhere at the same time, always chasing that elusive feeling of belonging. Over the years, I’ve learned that home isn’t just an address — it’s a place where you are fully known and still fully loved. But for much of my life, I thought belonging meant being able to fit in anywhere, to shape-shift into whatever people needed me to be.

This song begins with the voices of Ethiopian parents — hidden saints saying “yes” every day to children who need to be seen, known, and welcomed home. When I hear their voices, I hear the global echo of the mothering heart of God. Their quiet acts of love remind me that belonging isn’t about blending in; it’s about being loved exactly as you are.

Adoption taught me that. It’s the moment when someone says, “You’re mine.” And God says that to each of us — inviting us into a family where love is never earned, only given. Belonging isn’t something we achieve. It’s a gift we receive. We’re not outsiders trying to get in. We’re children, already home.
